Overview

Pulau Pangkor is located about 90 km southwest of Ipoh town. It is largely inhabited by fisherman who live in scattered fishing villages along the eastern coast.
Local cottage industry in this island produce a lot of delicious seafood delicacies such as dry cuttlefish and the famous satay fish. The enchanting beaches along the western coastline of the island is one of the main attraction for holiday makers to come here.

Accommodations

The accommodation in Pulau Pangkor range from luxury to basic, all rooms with air-conditioning and attached bathroom, clean and well maintained. There are few resorts in Pulau Pangkor, namely Pangkor Island Beach Resort , Pangkor Coral Bay Resort, Anjungan Beach Resort and Spa, Puteri Bayu Beach Resort, Coral View Beach Resort and Nipah Bay Villa, etc. Delicious oriental food is prepared by the local staffs throughout your stay.

Beer and soft drinks are available over the restaurants and shops in Pangkor Town. Some of the hotels has no built in meals outlet but guests will be able to select from a mixture of western and local food from nearby restaurants within walking distance.

Attractions

There are several other attractions on the island of Pangkor other than its beach. These attractions include the Pangkor Town, the fishing villages, the Kali Amman Temple, the Tiger Rock, Dutch Fort, the Tombs and the Tortoise Hill. Of all the beaches in Malaysia, Pangkor Island can be said to have one of the most beautiful and quiet beaches. It is only here that you can find peace and tranquility that many other beaches do not have.

Of all the beaches in Pangkor, the Teluk Nipah or Nipah Bay remains the most visited and popular among the foreign travellers though most of its visitors are Malaysians. The Nipah Bay is located about several kilometers north of Pantai Pasir Bogak. Unlike other beaches, the Nipah Bay has its own corals, sea cucumbers and well as a few species of birds on the beach. Nipah Bay actually consists of two beaches, the Nipah Beach and Coral Bay. From Nipah Bay, you can view the beautiful scenery of the two islands name Pulau Giam and Pulau Mentagor. At Pulau Giam, the best activity to do would be snorkeling as the waters are shallow and there are many kinds of corals and fishes to see.

Activities

Popular sea activities in Pangkor Island included swimming, snorkeling, wind-surfing, waterskiing, an exhilarating ride on jet ski, banana boat or fly with the winds on a parasail and fishing. The Island has very clear waters and is an excellent venue for water-skiing and sea activities.

Beach

Pantai Pasir Bogak (Pasir Bogak Beach)

Pantai Pasir Bogak is a few kilometers away from Pangkor Town on the West side of the island. This beach is probably the most popular of the Pangkor beaches. Maybe it is because it is so close to Pangkor Town. It has been described as 'the biggest swimming pool in the world'. The water is shallow and crystal clear. You will be able to arrange water-sport-facilities as jet-skiing, snorkeling or rent a canoe. All along the beach there are open-air food-stalls offering specialties such as barbecued squids, satay and fish crisps. Accommodation is easily available, ranging from luxury hotels, chalets to the more Spartan comforts of 'attap' huts and camping sites.

Teluk Nipah (Nipah Bay)

Of all the Pangkor beaches, Teluk Nipah or Nipah Bay is the most beautiful. This beach is located a few kilometers north Pantai Pasir Bogak. The beach is secluded and is able to maintain its natural beauty. Unlike other beaches, it has corals, sea cucumber and bird lovers can find the hornbill (Burung Enggang) on this beach. Conveniently people forget that Teluk Nipah is in fact 2 beaches: Nipah Beach and Coral Bay. Nipah Bay has a beautiful view on two small islands called Pulau Giam and Pulau Mentagor. Both of these islands are not inhabited although you might find locals willing to bring you there. It is said that when the tide is out you can even walk to Giam Island. .

Transportation

You can get to Lumut by driving for about two and a half hours from Kuala Lumpur. You can also opt to come by flight, there is scheduled flights by Berjaya Air which flies direct from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (Subang Airport) to Pangkor Airport.

The cheapest means of transportation to Lumut would be via bus. From Lumut, you can get to Pangkor Island via ferry which arrives every 30 minutes and will take 40 minutes to Sungai Pinang Kecil Jetty in the Island.

Transportation in the Island is very easy and convenience. You can take cab, van or even motorcycle in the Island. There are also renting services for bicycle and motorcycle in the Island.
