Millionaire’s Row
Penang is home to a large number of tourist spots and one interesting spot
among that is the Millionaire’s Row. This particular place stands out with its
exclusive villas and has an interesting history to narrate.
The Place houses some of the exotic and classic looking mansions in Penang
dating back to the year 1908. The area or the street Millionaire’s Row most
probably was named due to the huge mansions located in this area. The place
bears mark of the class of people that resided here.
The Houses located here are no doubt beautiful and are extraordinary examples of
the architectural genius. All the houses were built under a common theme known
as the Straits Style.
This pattern of architecture paved the path to the era of villas in Penang. The
Millionaire’s Row was dominantly a European Enclave. With time the place also
witnessed the influence of Chinese touches like rich Chinese Bosses were added
to the style of construction. The resultant buildings were very decorative and
lavish with clear touches of sophistication.
The place is ideal for a quiet stroll as the beauty of the mansions can only be
explored on foot and with time. The Millionaire’s Row looks extremely beautiful
in the fading lights of the day. Some of the mansions are still inhabited by the
descendants of the patriarch’s.
