National Planetarium
The National Planetarium is located conveniently inside the
Perdana Botanical Garden. It was back in 1993 when the planetarium was first opened to the public.
The planetarium has been intelligently designed and structured to mimic a mosque
with a blue dome. In order to locate it in the large
Perdana Botanical Garden is
easy. The National Planetarium sits in between the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park and
the National Museum.
There are quite a number of exhibits in the planetarium but the highlight is the
mock-up of the inside of the International Space Station which shows the
sleeping and toilet arrangement. On display as well is the space suit of the
first Malaysian astronaut together with packets of readymade packs of Nasi Lemak
which he brought along into space.
At the ground floor of the planetarium are some replicas of observatories used
by the Chinese and the Indians during the ancient times. There is also a replica
of the Stonehenge but made of fiberglass. The main exhibit at the planetarium is
none other than the Omnimax style film which is projected on the interior part
of the roof.
Comfortable reclining seats were available for visitors to enjoy the film on the
screen. The huge screen where the film was projected on will give visitors an
enhanced viewing pleasure while watching the film. On a daily basis, several
films are shown. If you have the time, you can stay longer to watch them.
Getting There
The easiest way to get to the National Planetarium is via taxi. But if you want
to opt for a cheaper means of transportation, you can take the RapidKL bus (B101
and B112) and get off at the Dayabumi Complex. From the complex, you can walk to
the National Planetarium.
If you plan to take the KTM Kommuter, just remember to stop at the
Old Kuala
Lumpur Railway Station. You will need to walk towards the National Planetarium.
