Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA Terminal 2)
Built at an estimated cost of RM4 billion, KLIA Terminal 2 ((Formerly known
as klia2) is the largest purpose-built terminal optimized for low-cost
carriers, addressing the significant growth of low-cost travel in the
region. It was constructed to replace the previous Low Cost Carrier Terminal
(LCCT). KLIA Terminal 2 commenced its operations on 2 May 2014, with all
flight operations from LCCT transferred to KLIA Terminal 2 by 9 May 2014.
As part of its development, a third runway (Runway 15/33) and a new air
traffic control tower (Tower West) were constructed to support operations.
The initial capacity of KLIA Terminal 2 is 45 million passengers per year.
The terminal has a built-up area of 257,845 sqm, featuring 68 departure
gates, 10 remote stands, 80 aerobridges, and a retail space of 32,000 sqm,
accommodating a total of 220 retail outlets. A notable feature is the
skybridge connecting the main terminal building with its satellite piers,
making KLIA Terminal 2 the first airport in Asia with this facility.
Additionally, KLIA Terminal 2 is certified with Leadership in Energy &
Environmental Design (LEED).
The check-in counters, arranged in 8 rows across 4 islands, are identified
by the letters S – Z. Boarding gates are situated in 5 piers, marked by the
letters J and K for domestic flights, and L, P, and Q for international
flights. Piers J, K, and L are directly connected to the main terminal
building, while Piers P and Q are accessible via the skybridge.
Gateway@klia2
The main terminal lobby also houses a transportation hub, Gateway@klia2,
which is an integrated shopping complex with a net lettable space of 350,000
square feet spanning four levels. It includes an 8-story car park, offering
a total of 11,500 covered parking lots, with shuttle buses facilitating
transportation from the car park to the terminal.
Moreover, Gateway@klia2 is home to the Capsule by Container Hotel, the first
capsule transit hotel in Asia. The complex is managed by WCT Holdings
Berhad.
