Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (IATA: KUL, ICAO: WMKK), or KLIA serves
the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, and is one of Southeast Asia's
largest airports. It is also Malaysia's main international airport. It is
situated in the Sepang district, in the south of the state of Selangor,
about 50 km from Kuala Lumpur. It began its operations in June 1998, and
today, KLIA is capable of handling 35 million passengers.
Currently, KLIA comprises of two buildings, namely the Main Terminal
Building (MTB) and the Satellite Building. All domestic and some
international arrivals and departures are from the Contact Pier at the MTB.
Departure and arrival formalities (immigration, customs etc.) are also
processed at the MTB. The Satellite Building caters solely for international
arrivals and departures.
KLIA features a number of modern design features that assist in efficient
operation of the airport. The Express Rail Link is the latest means of
transportation to KLIA from the city centre. The KLIA Express and the KLIA
Transit links KLIA to Kuala Lumpur (KL Sentral - City Air Terminal) and
vice-versa.
At the City Air Terminal, departing passengers have the option of
checking-in their luggage, receive their boarding passes and proceed to
board the train for KLIA. Immigration clearance will be completed at the
airport. Travel time between KL Sentral to KLIA is 28 minutes on the KLIA
Express and 37 minutes on the KLIA Transit.
There are more than 50 airlines operating in KLIA (including charters and
seasonals).
